A Few Helpful Tips...

Step-by-Step Illustrated Support
  1. Troubleshooting your printer (page 1)

  2. Troubleshooting your printer (page 2)
It's Not Really Empty!
When many of the self contained toner cartridges start to skip, streak, miss, etc. they still have 10-15% of the toner left. This is especially true with copiers and faxes when they show vertical streaks on the page.

Remove the cartridge and *gently* shake and tip it to redistribute the toner. Return to machine and keep working. You may get 10-15% more toner from your cartridge, however, don't leave a big job unattended as the toner could possibly run out before you finish. You can do this 2-3 times or until it will only last for a few 'runs'.

Cleaning
Dirty printers are the most common cause of problems and breakdown. In fact when you clean the machine, over half the time the problems go away. We will soon offer laser printer service…watch our site for details.
Low Humidity
In the winter, low humidity levels are common inside of homes and office buildings. Low humidity can cause many different problems for equipment that uses toner. This is because static charges, which are affected by the humidity level, are used to control how the toner moves onto your paper. For cleaner, sharper printing, increase the humidity levels in rooms where printers, copiers and fax machines are located.
Print Density
Most laser printers and copy machines have a way to control the print density. Check your manual to find how to change this setting on your machine. You can use the density setting to change the autoexposure on copy machines. Setting print density to a lighter setting uses less toner and makes your cartridges go further. Turn the setting darker when printing large blocks of black. If you see a light gray background on all your printing this setting can help to clear it up.
Paper Rules
Paper plays an important role in the print quality. Paper that has a rough surface will not work well because toner cannot be deposited on it evenly. Paper that is too thick will jam in the machine. If thick paper does make it through, the toner will not be fused correctly and may flake off. The paper should not have too much moisture but also should not be so dry that static becomes a problem. Whenever possible, try to use paper that is made for printer/copy machines and do not store large amounts of paper for future use (buy it as you need it).
